Can we just talk about Maggie Rogers? I got to see her perform last week at Union Transfer for her sold-out show. Truthfully I didn't know what to expect. I have listened to her songs on repeat and adore her Tiny Desk Concert for NPR.
The opening act was a high energy, hipster band that you shouldn't like, but do. At one point the opener even said, "Not the band you expected to open up, right?"
Maggie Rogers came out in the best concert outfit ever. A full moon, galaxy jumpsuit with a cape. She opened with her song On+Off and I couldn't be happier.
Despite this one man not knowing space respect and bumping into my sister-in-law; the concert was great. Maggie Rogers commanded the stage. Her presence was unmatched by other new artists I have seen in the recent months. She kept the energy going and going. She barely stayed center stage. Her mix of songs and unreleased songs allowed the crowd to merely just enjoy the show. She let her hair down mid-concert and you couldn't help feeling that she was giving it all while smiling the whole time. At one point I leaned over to my sister, who I attended the show with, and said, "she looks like a witch, and I love it."
This concert is one for the books. I will continue to follow her growth as an artist and can't wait to see her again. She just released a video for her song Falling Water and it is a magical desert dance video with stunning colors. Watch it, Listen to Maggie Rogers, and thank me later.
